Midwifery Care
Midwifery is one of the oldest professions, grounded in a holistic philosophy that has long recognised care as inherently woman-centred. Maternity care holds the wellbeing of both mother and baby in balance; bringing new life into the world is not only a physical process, but also a deeply social and spiritual experience. Every family arrives with its own needs, values, understanding, and preferences.
The word midwife—“being with woman”—beautifully reflects this role: a skilled, knowledgeable, and compassionate presence who walks alongside women, supporting their physical, emotional, and psychological wellbeing. Pregnancy is understood not as an illness, but as a healthy life stage, and birth as a powerful moment of transformation. This model of care, built on relationship is what makes midwives unique practitioners within the health system.
The connection a woman has with her care provider can profoundly shape her health outcomes, birth experience, and transition into early parenthood. Many women aren’t aware that a private midwife can be part of their care team. Midwives play a vital role in delivering high-quality care across all settings worldwide. Evidence shows that when women receive care from educated, regulated, and licensed midwives, outcomes improve—leading to safer births and meaningful reductions in maternal and newborn mortality.
